MANDALUYONG CITY – Year of the Fire Rooster sets off to a great start as the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies presents its 11th Spring Film Festival and the grand initiation of Chinese Painting Exhibit at EDSA Shangri-la Plaza.
The week-long celebration begins with the Opening Gala Night last January 25 featuring special acts such as the dragon dance number, traditional Chinese women clothing parade, games, and photo booths.
Students from the Confucius Institute of Ateneo de Manila showcase their talent and skills through one of the main highlights of the annual event which is the Chinese painting exhibit from January 25-31 at the Grand Atrium Level 2 of the main wing.
“We are doing here is really planting a very subtle seed, but it is a strong seed of mutual understanding”, said Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin during the interview with the press.
He added “…as we begin to understand other culture, we begin to understand ourselves”, welcoming everyone to the Chinese art gallery and workshops as well as in the film showing.
Meanwhile, the movies included in the festival are the melodrama “A Complicated Story”, romance-comedy “Book of Love”, action-thriller “Wolf Totem”, Venice Film Festival nominee “Red Amnesia”, crime-action “Horseplay”, and family-oriented comedy film “Everybody’s Fine”.
The film festival run from January 25-29 at the Shang Cineplex Cinema 4.
Six featured Chinese films at the Festival
Other activities sponsored are the Chinese Music Concert, January 28 and the Chinese Pastel Painting Workshop, January 29.
The event was made possible in cooperation with the Film Development Center of the Philippines, Credit Suisse, Ateneo Celadon, ANC, Rustan’s, Shangri-la Plaza, and other media partners.
